Additional Information
The plans provide for the erection of a mirrored pair of semi-detached houses, one of which was later to be occupied by the applicant John Shaw, bootmaker of Cros Church Street, and the other by a tenant of Mr Shaw. A letter dated 21 January 1886, from Frederic Collins complains that despite promises the certificate of completeion has not been issued by John Helliwell, the Private Works Inspector. Requesting Mr Helliwell's immediate attention, Collins notes that the bottom 'house is now let'. A certificate was issued 11 February 1886.
The accommodation in each house, comprises :
Basement (part) - Cellar; Wash Kitchen; Coals.
Ground - Drawing Room; Dining Room; Kitchen.
Chamber - three Bedrooms; Bathroom; W.C.
Attic - Attic; Attic Store.
The Kitchens and Bathrooms are accommodated in projecting wings to the rear of the buildings. The elevation to Springwood Avenue is well proportioned, with small attic dormers, low squat chimney dividing the two properties, single storey segmental bay windows to the ground floor drawing rooms, and hoods over the front doors.
