Additional Information
The beautifully drawn set of plans for John Charles Anderson, listed in the 1881 Huddersfield Directory as living at 36 Fenton Square, and described as a Woollen Salesman, are for a villa residence on vacant land looking out on to Greenhead Park. The villa occupies almost the full width of the building plot. There were still vacant plots on either side; the one to the north and west is bounded by Vernon Street. The two storey bay, with gables and perpendicular Gothic detail, on the south east corner of the principal elevation provide a hint of the "Scottish baronial'"
The section indicates extensive use of wooden panelling for the interiors. A particular feature is made of the staircase which rises through the centre of the house; a large window lights the landing.
The accommodation comprises:
- Basement (part) - wash kitchen; coal lace; keeping cellar; wood store; wine bin
- Ground - porch; hall; cloaks; lavatory; pantry; kitchen; dining room; drawing room
- Chamber - four bedrooms; bathroom; W.C.
- Attic - 3 bedrooms; box room; cistern room; landing
- Yard - ashes place; privy
