Additional Information
Two storey and single storey complex, stone faced with ashlar dressings, and blue slate roof. See also the same architect's plans for the adjacent property occupied by Joseph Taylor & Sons. The plans show attractive details to the finish of the buildings at the junction of the two streets.
It seems likely that the premises were not built for Alfred Crowther & Sons, Lead & Glass Works. This was to become the site of the Palace Theatre in 1909. The McNaughten Vaudeville Co. acquired the site at an earlier date. There are no notices of inspection of drains and foundations. Alfred Crowthers later occupied a building at the junction of Northumberland Street and Lord Street - now the Media Centre. A firm of the same name still trades in the town (2008).
