Additional Information

Hibbert's Pictures Limited wtrer based at the Temperance Hall, Bradford; Henry Hibbert, Managing Direstor; John Lambert, Secretary. The company notepaper describes them as 'Experts in Everything Appertaining to Cinematography'. The plans provide for the erection of a cinema between Buxton Road and Albion Street. The main entrance is to be in Buxton Road adjacent to a shop property. A corridor leads into the auditorium. In this plan, the screen is mounted on the wall nearest Buxton Road with the rows of seats facing members of the audience as they arrived. This plan made use of the slope of the land, and required less excavation.. In later versions, the screen was moved to the Albion Street end of the building.Covered passageways provide exits to either street. Early plans were rejected because of the use of combustible materials for the roofing and the lack of sanitary facilities for the visiting public. An iron roof and appropriate numbers of W.C.s were added later. The plans were amended during the development period. See also
